FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At Empire Candle we are here to help. We have listed some of our most frequently asked questions below. If you do not see your question addressed here please feel free to reach out to our customer service team for assistance.

What is in your candles and wax melt products? Do you offer a list of ingredients for your candles?

The short answer would be wax and fragrance. Our products offer a variety of unique wax blends that are highly proprietary, so we do not share a detailed ingredient list. All of our blends have been rigorously tested to ensure optimal performance characteristics and consumer safety.

Do you use artificial fragrances or essential oils?

Fragrances can be made up of synthetic or natural ingredients, but most have both. A single fragrance can contain anywhere from 12 to 70 individual ingredients, but we specifically design ours to contain some essential oil content. Our Nature's Own Natural Candle brand does offer fragrances that are 100% natural and are derived from essential oils and absolutes.

Do your wicks contain lead?

Nope! In fact, the use of metal wicks has been banned in the United States for decades. All of our wicks are metal-free. Depending on the collection and application, our wicks are made with cotton, cotton with a paper core, or cotton and paper woven together.

Can your glass be recycled?

In short, our glassware can be recycled if your area has a facility that accepts household glass outside of traditional beverage and food containers. Much like any commercial drinkware, our glass candle containers have a different chemical composition and melting point than the glassware that is used for beverages, condiments, etc. This composition helps to ensure that the candle can be safely burned and withstand a larger range of temperatures.

What ingredients are in your reed diffusers and room sprays?

It varies by fragrance and format, but both products contain a combination of fragrance ingredients and solvents. All of our reed diffusers and room sprays adhere to IFRA guidelines and a list of ingredients may be found on our product ingredients page.

I am unable to plug my warmer into an outlet. The plug was put on upside down.

All of our small wall outlet warmers are equipped with a rotating plug base. Simply turn the plug clockwise to match the orientation of your wall 120v AC outlet. Be sure that you are using our outlet warmers with grounded plugs. The white peg that fits into the ground offers additional stability to the unit which increases its safety. Please do not remove the peg.

How long should I let my wax melts burn?

Much like our candles we do not recommend exceeding 4 hours of burn time on our wax melts. We recommend using 1 fragrance cube for outlet warmers and 1-2 cubes for our tabletop warmers. Each section in our 6-cube packaging will emit between 4-5 hours of fragrance when fully melted. When you are ready to swap fragrances be sure you allow the dish to fully cool before handling. From there you can pop the dish into the freezer until the wax easily releases from the dish. Be sure you allow the dish to return to room temperature before use. We recommend that you use only Tuscany Candle® brand melts in our Tuscany Candle® warmers for an optimal, and safe, fragrance experience.

Has my favorite fragrance been discontinued? I can’t find it anywhere!

We understand your connection to a specific fragrance and carefully consider our decisions to retire fragrances. Much like home décor and fashion, fragrance trends are always evolving so we only retire fragrances that are no longer performing for us as a business, or that no longer align with observable market trends. We consistently bring new, trend forward fragrances to the market each year which have the potential to become your new favorite. Please feel free to contact our customer service team for recommendations in the event your favorite has been retired.

Can I place a direct order?

A broad selection from our everyday collections may be purchased at TuscanyCandle.com or through one of our retail partners. For a list of our current retail partners visit the "Our Brands" page.

How can I get the best burn experience out of my candle?

The first time you light a candle, plan to let it burn until the entire top has melted to the jar edges before putting it out. For most candles, this works out to be about one hour per inch in diameter so you may need to plan ahead. Wax has a “memory” so if a candle is extinguished with a partial wax pool it may tunnel and never achieve a full pool.

You should avoid letting your candle burn for more than four hours at a time. At that point the balance between the length of the wick, the temperature of the flame and the melting wax starts to get out of sync. If you really want to fill a space with scent for a long period of time, we suggest stocking up on multiples of the same candle and rotating them throughout the day.

Be sure you trim your wick to ¼” each time you light the candle, removing any wick 'bloom' from the previous burn. A lengthy wick is how you end up with “sooting” and it can also lead to an uneven burn. Avoid letting the excess wick fall onto the top of the candle. Stray debris will inhibit your candle’s performance and may lead to performance and safety issues.

Be sure you do not blow out your candles. This is one of the worst ways to extinguish your candle and you could risk of bending the wick, sending droplets of hot wax flying out of the jar, or filling your face with smoke. Instead, we recommend using a candle snuffer, a wick dipper, or even a glass covering, so long as it’s completely made from non-flammable materials.

We recommend discontinuing the use of your candle when 1/2” of wax is left at the bottom of the jar. Continuing to burn after this point significantly increases safety risks.

QUICK CANDLE SAFETY TIPS

Please do not leave candle burning unattended.

Keep candles out of the reach of small children and pets.

Always burn on a heat resistant surface.

Do not touch or move candle with visible (liquid) hot wax.

Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, and ceiling fans to minimize smoking or a wick blowing out causing the candle to burn unevenly.

Make sure candle is completely extinguished and the wick no longer glows before leaving the room.
